Biography

Renee Sekula is a singer-songwriter and music recording artist.

 

In 2020, she released two EPs, the wonderfully metaphysical debut Prismatic and its spicy follow-up, In & Out.

 

Renee is a classically educated musician making music in the popular genre. Her brand of alternative synth pop rock for the New Age blends well-crafted song writing with lo-fi digital production and synthesizer sounds. Her primary instrument is the voice and her musical trademark is elegant resonant vocals and mystical lyrics.

 

Born Małgorzata Magdalena Sekula in Katowice, Poland on December 19, 1986, the artist immigrated to the Greater Toronto Area with her family when she was 5. Renee began studying piano at the age of 8 and singing in the school choir. Several years later, she began to formally study singing.

 

Her primary voice teacher was Susan Gudgeon. Renee also studied with Isolde Assenheimer at the Stuttgarter Musikhochschule, Lita Classen at Mohawk College and coached with Sue Ambrose. Her classical musical education was guided by the curriculum of the Royal Conservatory of Music.

 

Early Life

Growing up in a multi-cultural setting, Renee became fascinated with human culture in all its forms. This naturally extended into exploring a variety of musical genres and art forms. Growing up, Renee listened to lots of rock’n’roll because that’s what was played around her.

 

In addition to music, has a well-rounded arts and science education. She graduated in 2008 from McMaster University with an Hons.B.A. in French and German Literature and the course equivalent of a minor in Life Sciences. She then studied Classical Singing at Mohawk College for two years, where she was exposed to jazz and more contemporary musical practises.

 

 

Hollow Men & Lazy Lazarus (2016-2017)

In 2016, having explored a vast gamut of the human experience including but not limited to yoga, raves, super foods, plant medicines, motherhood, bio-hacking and start-up entrepreneurship, Renee committed to creating original alternative rock music.

 

In April 2017, she set the T.S. Eliot poem Hollow Men to music and collaborated with bassist and producer Zach Clarke to create a 5 song stoner rock demo of the poem cycle.

 

Later that year, she also recorded an electro pop demo of the Sylvia Plath poem Lady Lazarus, which she split into a 3-song triptych. Failing to secure publication rights to use the poems, Renee moved on to create original music.

 

 

Prismatic (2018)

She spent 2018 writing and recording the album which became Prismatic.

 

 

In & Out (2020)

Renee then continue creating music and wrote and recorded In & Out, released October 2020.

Renee's mission is to nourish the Aquarian Age with progressive psychedelic rock music.

 

She is a contributing member of the Resonance Academy, a CE5 Ambassador, a member of Thrive Movement as well as Tool Army.
