Child Born of the Blue Lotus

After l was introduced the the blue lotus, I learned about the Egyptian god of perfumery, Nefertum who is associated with the blue lotus. Often, he is depicted with a lotus growing out of the crown of his head.

Later, I learned that Nefertum was syncretized with the child Horus. The child phase of Horus is Har-poor-krat, the god of silence. He is born of the blue lotus, which opens at dawn. This energy is similar to that of Apollo.

The blue lotus promotes speech, singing, music and poetry. This plant promotes dopamine in the synapses. Im not sure if it promotes the creation of dopamine or if it is a re-uptake inhibitor. It is also a natural anti-histamine which pairs well with cannabis. It can prevent people from getting sluggish when smoking. Chemicals found within the blue lotus are used to treat Parkinson’s.

While looking for images of Nefertum, I found this picture of a young child with the shaved head and Egyptian side lock, which his finger pointing at his mouth, sitting in a  blue lotus. I love this image!

I think that it is the icon for the New Aeon. I would like to see many more renditions of this image. This is the only graphic I have found. Originally, I thought it would be really amazing to see this image rendered by Alex Grey. I think it would look so good done in his style with lots of gold and royal blue. I can see it in my mind’s eye !

I’ve been thinking about mother child iconography versus the child in the lotus icon.

The mother child iconography describes physical birth. It is strongly connected to the physical body. It represents someone else creating you and teaching you.

The image of the child born of the lotus symbolizes awakening of consciousness. It represents a prise de conscience.

There is a Chinese proverb which says that you are born twice: once when your mother gives birth to you and a second time, when you give birth to yourself.

The child born of the lotus represents entry into spiritual adulthood. It also symbolizes the transformation which happens as a result of adversity.

The lotus represent the blossoming of energetic centres as well as reaping the fruits of living through challenge. The lotus is rooted in the silt and mud, it rises through the water and unfurls on the surface of the water.

The lotus is diurnal. It opens to the sun in the morning and closes at night. It has a lovely aroma which is most noticeable in the mornings.

The blue lotus is associated with light and water and is connected to daily cycles. The sun represents higher consciousness; the light of the soul. The lotus awakens to receive the light of the soul. It is the birth of the seeker into spiritual connection with the higher self.
